Location Data

What location data we collect

When you set your location on KryVervoer, we collect and store:

• Your approximate latitude and longitude
• A human-readable address derived from your coordinates (via OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service)
• The date and time you gave consent to store your location
• A record that you gave consent to location storage

We do not collect:

• Real-time or continuous location tracking
• Your movement history or routes
• Precise GPS coordinates beyond what you manually set

Why we collect it

Your location is used solely to:

• Show you drivers within your search radius on the map
• Show drivers your approximate area so they can assess whether they service your route

Location data is not used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond matching parents with nearby drivers.

How we store it

Your location is stored in Google Firebase Firestore, a cloud database with industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit. Only authenticated users of KryVervoer can access driver location data, and only your own location data is writable by you.

Who can see your location

How long we keep it

Your location data is stored for as long as your account is active. If you update your location, the previous coordinates are overwritten. If you delete your account, all location data is permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days.

Your consent

Before storing your location, KryVervoer displays a clear consent screen requiring you to actively tick a checkbox confirming you agree to location storage. This consent is recorded in our database along with the date it was given.

Location data is required to use KryVervoer's core features. If you do not consent, you will not be able to use the driver map or be shown as a driver to parents. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.

Your rights under POPIA

Under POPIA you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the location data we hold about you
• Correction — update your location at any time via your profile
• Deletion — request deletion of your location data or delete your account
• Objection — object to how we process your location data

Third party services

When you use the "Use My Current Location" button, your browser's built-in Geolocation API is used — this is handled entirely by your device and browser, not by KryVervoer.

Your coordinates are sent to OpenStreetMap Nominatim to convert them into a human-readable address. Nominatim's usage policy applies to this request. We do not store any data returned beyond the display address.
